'Act on hotspots'

Source of picture:www.thejakartaglobe.com

An article on straitstime.com, 'Act on hotspots',reported that SINGAPORE has urged Indonesia to take action to address the hotspot situation in Sumatra that is responsible for cloaking parts of South-east Asia in a foggy haze, resulting in Singapore's Pollutant Standards Index (PSI) hitting a four-year-high.
(Extracted from original article)

For past years, the region around Indonesia has been plagued by the annual haze nusiance caused by irresponsible cultivation method in Indonesia. This annual nusiance has not only threatened the health of the residents in the region but accelerated the process of global warming. Rather than being told to put out the fire every year, this practice of cultivation method should be put to a stop. Rather than allocating funds to put out forest fires annually, these money could have been used to improve the lives of the people in the country.

Harsh rules and regulations should be set to punish selfish farmers who have caused this annual haze in the region.

Some S’poreans swear off McDonald’s after photo experiment

It did not really irk me after reading the article "Some S’poreans swear off McDonald’s after photo experiment"(http://sg.yfittopostblog.com/2010/10/18/some-sporeans-swear-off-mcdonalds-after-photo-experiment/) on yahoo home page. In fact, I am even more disgusted by employment of schooling youths by these fast food chains.

It is not only the range of unhealthy food they have offered in their menu but the exploitation of youth below sixteen to work for them for a low wage. I wonder if this can be considered as a form of child labour. As much as fighting child labour in the third world country, Singapore should enforce stricter employment restrictions for these fast food chains due to two main reasons:

1.) These youth should spend more time in school learning
2.) Low wages do not bring about a cheaper priced menu

In my opinion, it is time for these fast food chains to exercise their social responsibility. Stop the practice of employing "schooling youth"! Don't deprive them of a future!

Team behind fake bear video apologises

It is indeed a creative uploaded video which is absolutely lack of social responsibility.

In an interview with MediaCorp radio station 987fm this evening, Nicholas Ye, the creative director behind the guerilla marketing campaign, said there were no intentions to cause the public any harm.

"I'm very apologetic of any sort of alert we might've caused the parents. Right now we're just really trying to suss out the sentiment, we're talking to all the relevant people that we might've caused concern to. But also, there are a whole bunch of people, a lot more people actually, who are very engaged by the campaign."

This gentleman simply don't understand that his team has not only been a social nusiance but a nusiance that could have diverted the law enforcers from real life threatening situations as well. Stricter laws and regulations should be enforced to prevent people or companies to misuse the media for their own selfish cause.

Windows Phone 7 Operating System: My 10 cents worth of view

After months of its initial launch, the new Apple Ipod 4 has dominated a large portion of the smart phone market in Singapore. Most telco companies in Singapore have claimed that Iphone is currently out of stock and will only be available from December onwards.

However, the absence of Iphone 4 may well be substituted by the Windows Phone 7 operating system which will be launched in October. The system has automatically integrated updates and messages from social networks such as facebook onto its screen. In addition, with the installation of Microsoft office, this little monster will definitely capture the attention of mobile consumers.

Other features include Zune music and video content, Xbox gaming platform, the Bing search engine and Microsoft’s OneNote software.

WindowS Phone 7 will definitely be a serious contender to top the Smart Phone market.

Match Review Group D Match 1: Ghana VS Serbia- The unlucky Serbs

Source:http://www.fifa.com

First , a red card in the 74th minute of the game followed by a penalty in 83rd minute. This is enough to dash the Serbs' hope of obtaining any point from their opening match. Both teams have play reasonably well but the Serbs were indeed very unlucky in this match. Blame the "hand of flopped"!

Final Score: Serbia 0 Ghana 1
Scorer: A.Gyan 85th minute (Penalty)
Man of the match: 3. A.Gyan (Ghana)

Group D Match 2: Germany Vs Australia

After the England's fumble in the group B clash, I do not have much confidence in the top teams anymore. All matches have not exceed two goals so far and the strikers have yet to meet their expectations. While France settled for a goaless draw, Argentina can only produce a goal to elminate their oppnent. Wayne Rooney, Lionel Messi and Gonzalo Higuain has yet register themselves on the scorer sheet.

Hence, I do not have much expectation for the Germans. Despite being a frequent contender for the world cup champion, the Germans were forced to field a young side for this competition. With the absence of Micheal Ballack in the team, this German team may not be the same power house we have used to see. The Germans may be seriously lack of firepower at the front. If the Aussies can defend well eoungh, they may even able to sneak a win over the Germans.

Can Miroslav Klose prevent the Socceroos from attaining the first major upset in the competition?

Match Review Group B Match 2: Argentina VS Nigeria

The teams in group B definitely love to score early. In the second match of group B today, the crowd in Ellis Park stadium witness the first goal from Argentina in the 6th minute of the game. Gabriel Heinze sprinted away from his marker to head home the first goal of the match. The first half of the game has shown a clear dominance of the game by the Argentineans.

Argentina has became the team that has the most goal attempts so far with a total number of 20 attempts. It could also be worrying for the Argentineans as their strikers were simply not striking the target. Despite a good run from Messi and Higuain, both the Argentinean twin terrors have failed to deliver. It was indeed very disappointing as more was expected from these two players.

Nevertheless, both teams have performed well enough to give the fans a 90 minutes worth of good entertainment. Despite the lack of opportunities to capitalise a goal, the Nigerians have defended well, pulling a number of good save.

Final Score: Argentina 1 Nigeria 0
Scorer: Gabriel Heinze 6th minute

Match Review Group B: Korea Vs Greece

Source: http://www.fifa.com

South Korea started off well by scoring an early goal in the 7th minutes of the game. In this Korean dominated half, the greeks managed to pull a few good save to ensure the score was kept at 1-0. Despite winning 6 corners in the first half, it was an amazing that the greeks has only a goal on target in this half.

The second half kicked off with a repeated early goal. Seven minutes into the second half (52nd minute), the Korean scored again! This time, Jisung, the 29-year-old won possession 30 yards from goal, took on the last defender, and sailed the ball past the advancing keeper.

Despite being world number 13, Greece has clearly been outclassed by the South Koreans. In order to excel beyond the group stages, a lot of work and reorganisation of the team is needed to be done by the former European Champions before their next game against Nigeria.

Final Score: Korea Republic 2 Greece 0

Scorer: Jungsoo 7th minute
Jisung 52nd minute

Man of the Match: 7 Jisung (Korea Republic)

Group C Match 1: England VS USA

England should shoot themselves if they cannot emerge winner from this match. In my opinion, they have the best chance of lifting the World Cup this year. Unlike Spain and Brazil, England will not be really tested until they meet either Argentina or Germany. This would most probably be in the semi semi-final stages of the competition.

Although the Americans promised to dig their claws deep into their opponent, England should be able to prove to their opponent that they are simply too strong for the them. There is a great possibilty that Wayne Rooney can become the top scorer of the competition after this match. However, there is also another great concern if he will pick up any cards during the match. Any cards picked up by Rooney at this early stage of the competition may prove to be costly in the later part.

Author's appeal to Wayne Rooney: Please keep your cool!

Author's pick: England 4 USA 1

Group B Match 2:Argentina VS Nigeria

Argentina should win this match with the services of the two top scorers in Europe, Lionel Messi and Gonzalo Higuain. This twin terrors should be able to ensure a win from the match is kept out of reach for the Nigerians.

Despite playing on familar grounds, the Nigerians may not have any advantage over this talented Argentinean team. We may expect to see more goals from this match and Argentina should be able to obtain three points from this match. In my opinion, this will be a match of high entertainment value.

Group B Match 1: Korea Republic VS Greece (12 June 2010)

This can be seen as a clash between the east and the west. Although this is the first meeting between the two nations in the world cup, stats from previous friendly meetings have favoured the South Korean. In 2006, the 2 sides settled for a 1-1 draw and in 2007, the South Korean beat the Greeks by a goal to nil. In addition, Greece has been performing badly in the recent friendlies. This may be a sign which suggests that the South Korean may emerge winner tonight.

However, it will not be a breeze for the South Koreans. We may expect to see a very tight first half with a goal or even a goaless draw. This will be a match that will test both team's stamina and determination to win.

Author's pick: Korea Republic 2 Greece 1

Group A Opening Match: Match Review

The world cup has finally kicked off with the opening match yesterday. As predicted earlier, it was a tight match between Mexico and the host nation, South Africa.

However, the excitement level was not as high as anticipated earlier. Mexico dominated the first half while the Bafana Bafana was sloppy. However, the Mexicans were not able to capitalize on the striking opportunities in the first half. The first half ended 0-0.

The South Afican seems to be a different team in the second half. The South Afican has not only attacked more agressively and even scored an opening goal against the Mexican. Towards the closing injury time, the South Africans has even nearly managed to steal a winner from their opponent.

On the other hand, the Mexican were very disappointing in the second half. They have displayed to the world a team that is lack of stamina and creativity. In my opinion, the South Aficans deserved a win in this match and it could have been a three points awarded to the host nation. Kudos to the Bafana Bafana for their performance in the second half.

Final Score(Group A): South Africa 1 Mexico 1
France 0 Uruguay 0

Group A Match 2:France VS Uruguay in Opening Day of World Cup 11 June 2010

Surprise or not, we may be expecting a tight match between the two nations in this match. After a streaks of poor performance in the friendlies, fans may expect to see a more conservative French team in this opening match.

On the other hand, Deigo Forlan seems capable of sneaking a goal or two for the Uruguayans in this match. While Juan Castillo holds the Uruguayan fort at the back, a win for the Uruguayan can never be written off for this match.

Author's pick: France 1 Uruguay 1

World cup Opening Match : Mexico VS South Africa

The world cup kicks off with an exciting match between the host country, South Africa and a world cup regular, Mexico. Despite being one of the regulars in the world cup, Mexico has never been able to sail beyond the last 16.However, this world cup may spell a different story for Mexico. With an under-performed France in the group, Mexico seems to be a serious contender to top group A.

On the other hand, South Africa has been identified as the weakest team in the group. Many believe that it may be the first host country in the world cup history to be disqualified in the early group stages. However, the advantage to play on their home soil has been suggested that spectators may expect a few upsets and surprises on the Afican soil. With the service of the young star,Kagisho Dikgacoi, teams in group A can never underestimate the Bafana Bafana.

This is going to be a tight match. However, Mexico will most likely emerge as the final winner of the match.

Author's Pick: Mexico 2 South Africa 1
